As most of you will know I attended many of Melbourne's training sessions at Gosch's before we moved to Casey as a result of Covid.  My main interest was the rehab group, I always like to see who's in

You are wrong on both counts. I lost my job and my husband’s business is surviving on jobkeeper and is 70% down.  I had a friend attempt to commit suicide and I had a friend who works in a hospital

for this year only

We will see games again this year. The financials demand it.

Simply cannot see the AFL not playing any more games.

Bennell and vandenBerg will be very thankful to have another 10 weeks to heal before a stack of games are played. Most of the list will get a chance if we are playing a game every 5 days,

except that Bennell will also need five or six practice games before he is selected (unless we are repeating 2019) so I can't see him getting a clear run. You could be right though.

As I see it the season cannot start before June 1 and it is hard to see more than a 12 game season plus four weeks of finals.

MCC will be pressured to make the ground available for the T20 world cup (starting 18 October) even though it would make more money out of a delayed finals series etc.  I assume all the other big interstate grounds are contracted to provide space for the T 20 so there is a mega full stop to the season come October. You could probably get a few more games in by playing all finals at Docklands and having 5 day turnarounds etc.

The TV companies may not like the idea of too much football. After all they have to sell more advertising and the likes of Foxtel make their money by monthly subs not by the game so more games does not necessarily increase their bottom line revenue.

Strange times all round

If we lockdown properly and say get over the peak in 2-3 months, Footy without spectators could be back in July.

Of course there are more important things than sport, but it can lift the morale of so many and in times like these and those what will follow, it can help the national recovery a little.

If the peak is in 2-3 months, then we will be in the same position in 4-6 months as we are today in terms of infections, and we aren't playing any sport now.

There won't be any football this year.

Tend to agree. I fear by the end of this, footy may seem somewhat irrelevant and less important to many people

Rugby league great Andrew Johns has suggested the NRL go from 16 teams to 12 in order for the comp to survive. The AFL may be forced to do something drastic as well. The money just won't be there.

They’ll probably figure that people will be so desperate for the return of live football, that when it eventually resumes, they’ll up the admission price (and clubs will do the same with membership fees), by a considerable amount.

Matty Lloyd and Ross Lyon went through players who could possible benefit from the Coronavirus lock down and delay of the season, Daniher was the first one they mentioned but they talked at length about Bennell. Lyon mentioned that they’d been in touch and that the word from him was he was getting good distance into his legs.

Always want to take these sorts of things with a grain of salt but that’s really great to hear.

Lyon also said he was in regular contact with him which I think is great, can only be a good thing having another friendly face (or voice at the moment) in Melbourne.

Absolutely it could work in Bennell’s favour. Instead of maybe getting a token handful of games at the end of what would’ve been a non impacted season, he may end up playing half the season if the planets finally align for HB.

It seems as though most of his "set backs" have been minor, which would have been expected.

It's an interesting one, the delay may help him but if he can't show that he is durable for the rest of the season and list sizes are reducing it would be hard to carry an injury prone player into 2021. I'm hoping he gets a chance to show us what he's got.

Well he'll have to live for about a hundred more years

I hope he has put on about 4Kgs while he's off;   and running in sand,  so is leg muscles have to adjust to heavier work load with his new weight,  and grow stronger to operate working on a bigger frame.   Simply to grow his leg muscles strength.

After this,  he can trim back down,  whilst maintaining strength exercises and weights.

Read into this what you will:

"Goodwin said one positive to take from the enforced hiatus was that Aaron vandenBerg, Nathan Jones, Christian Salem, Harrison Petty, Mitch Hannan and Harley Bennell would all be fit to return from injury when the AFL action resumes."

Is Badloss going to fix the atrocious game plan while the break is on? The game against WC was exactly the same as last year’s disaster.

What we will take with a grain of salt is what Lyon said about the 2020 Melbourne side.

"Either the method is correct, and the players aren't adhering to it"

"Or the method is wrong".

The WC game wasn’t a disaster.   People need to realistic and understand how good WC is, especially is Perth.  We matched them for 3 qtrs in a game they knew would be their last.   Can people not imagine the anxiety the players might have had knowing borders were closing and the need to get home.  Understandably WC were in a similar position but they were already home.
