I’m not angry anymore. It’s worse… I’m apathetic. I couldn’t care less what happens now. If we lose on Friday, we lose, whatever. I didn’t even feel this abject despondency during our dark years.

It’s taken a long time and you’ve done it by attrition but nice going, AFL, for finally breaking my spirit. Quite the feat, too; an eternally optimistic key member of the cheer squad with psychotic levels of devotion… what a scalp.

Reality check.

The AFL is not just a sports organisation, its a big business and you have to follow the money to understand its decisions.

Suspending Maynard at this time, is bad for business.

BUT the class action looming in the background re the AFL’s duty of care to protect players now looks very shaky after this horrific incident.

To be continued…….

I cannot believe the afl is not appealing

I cannot believe Eddie McGuire exists anywhere but his own mind.

I want to play the Pies in the GF but first we have to get there.Ā

How you could read those finding "especially the bit about Gus at fault" and not appeal is staggering. Bring on the lawsuits.

Why would they appeal they already got the result they wanted. Collingwood players doesn’t get rubbed out and helps them match towards a GF and for extra cherry on top the findings hold Gus partly reasonable in case there’s any legal action taken down the track. Couldn’t Ā make this [censored] up.Ā

What’s the point though, Layz? If the AFL were serious about it they would’ve made an effort yesterday instead of that half-arzed waste of time of a presentation they dished up. An appeal would only serve as another unnecessary distraction and further angst.Ā

100% this.Ā  I musn't be too smart - my simple view without any of the detailed evidence/biomechanics bs etc is that once you ELECT to jump, you become that missile, or flying frisbee, or whatever else they called it. I didnt see the fact he ELECTED to jump ( and therefore willingly became that missile/frisbee)anywhere in the prosecution of the case?Ā Ā

I have to admit I feel the same. I'm just about done.Ā  I will always support our teams, but as far as the industry is concerned, but I'm pretty much almost done.

Feeling you WCW. Im a bit the same. We've been served a fair bit of heart break at the back end of this season. Petty, Melk and now Gus. Plus a close QF loss and then enduring the Collingwood bully boys. I wonder if the boys feel a bit the same? Either way They still have to run out and meet the blues in a brutal battle..they need our support more now than ever.Ā

The AFL has confirmed it won't appeal the decision, which means we:

- Care for Gus. Make sure he is OK. This is #1, for me anyway.Ā

- Work with the AFL (to the extent they want to, or care) to ensure this never happens again, or at least does not happen again without punishment.Ā

- FOCUS ON WINNING OUR GAME AGAINST THE BLUES. No other noise. No fugazi, whatever. Our sole and best form of avenging this BS will be to beat the Blues, the Lions... then ANNIHALATE the Pies. Simple.Ā

I hope the club puts out a nice statement calling out the failure of the AFL To look after the head, I won’t hold my breath howeverĀ

Leaving aside the arguments about what he did, what Gus did etc etc, the one thing that really stands out for me is Gleeson making some remark about the importance of the matches coming up for Maynard.Ā Ā

Remarks like that are toally inappropriate before the matter is decided by the jury. They may be barely acceptable in pleas about the sentence, but not before the jury deliberates.Ā  What a ****ty organization has taken over Aussie rules.

Maynard’s attempt to spoil GWS’ Daniel Lloyd in a pratice match was not looked upon favourably ... careless conduct, high impact and high contact and offered him a two-game suspension.

Lloyd was briefly knocked unconscious by the spoil and was diagnosed with a concussion in the aftermath.

This thread need to live on to post all the Ls of the rest of Maynard’s career.

just an interesting aside ---

maynard was found not guilty because his action was instinctive and not conscious because of the small time interval. so sub-conscious not conscious and therefore accidental not careless.

now if we take van rooyen's case. no-one was claiming it was intentional, so it was either conscious or sub-conscious. now it all happened in sub-second time and his opponent was changing direction. so how could it have been conscious?

this is all so very confusing.

of course, i'm not say van rooyen should not have been suspended but on the maynard logic could it not be argued as accidental.

Ā

There have been a couple of contrarian posters who 'guarantee' that if Gus had done this to Maynard we'd all have a different view.Ā

I suggest they look at the posts before and following Pickett's ban early in the season.Ā  Most posts were along the lines of 'how could he be so stupid', not 'our golden boy can do no wrong.'

This...I'm not a cheer squad member but I am passionate enough about this club.Ā  Now I'm not all that interested in any of it, bit of a sad way to feel.
