I don't get the Marvel Stadium hostility (yes I go to plenty of Carlton home games there). I too prefer the MCG but Marvel is still a decent place to watch footy. Especially if it is bad weather. Its also great for accessing drinks/,food/bathrooms, better than the MCG in that aspect. Transport is easy too being next to Southern Cross Station. If you get say 30K+ you can get a pretty good atmosphere too.

You just keep telling yourself that. It’s a soulless 💩hole by anyone’s standard.

I was there too was our first win at Docklands in many years....might have been 2015 poor Daniel Cross was KOed in his last game

Yep correct on both counts.

We went 8 years without winning a game at a stadium that was 4 kilometres away from our training venue.

Marvel is a banner crew’s best friend because our mortal enemies: the wind, the rain and the dewy grass don’t get a gig 😁

You’re right about the ease of using the amenities at Marvel and on a selfish level folks from the north-western suburbs can get there with more ease than getting to the ‘G. I don’t get off at Southern Cross, I get off at North Melbourne and it’s a 15-min walk. Too easy.

Marvel is a horrible place to watch footy. Cold concrete [censored]

And I hate when they close the roof when it’s sunny so the TV viewer isn’t impacted. Mate, i’ve been in an office all week, it’s 18oC and sunny and we are indoors?

Worst place to watch footy in the country

Agree with this.

Roof should be opened during the day when there’s less than 20% chance of rain, as it used to be.

This is exactly why we get criticised for lack of crowds at some games.  People who are  by most standards enthusiastic fans and members dream up reasons to miss going to Marvel too concretish can you believe Playing certain teams at our HOME GROUND the weather below say 14 degrees the travel etc.

Whilst a section of fans are so pathetic plus of course if we play a bad game or lose 2 in a row.

Do don’t complain when the opposition or media point this out. Just harden up and enjoy the experience as we win more than 2 out of 3 at Marvel now.

Under the roof is just another different experience to be on cold or rainy days. The football is usually faster and not affected by the wind so more skilful and enjoyable. Ie positive thoughts not negative.

And GW is it any wonder you are flummoxed by transport in the North Melbourne area voluntarily walking 15 minutes to a ground where the station is a Rooy punt away almost attached to the same buildings. (Next you will be telling us you carry out the banner by yourself. )

So Dees fans examine your habits and it’s no longer surprising that the 16/17,000 crowds at Port and GWS AT THE G at least one we still had a chance of making the Finals.

Still waiting for the missing 10,000 fans on those nights to reflect in our membership figures as I can absolutely guarantee the two sets of figures don’t lie at the moment.

And like Greenwave ( gu.less ) I won’t reply or respond. Oh and by commenting you will be generally revealing yourself as a fair weather fan, or one of the missing 10,000!!

Cheers to the true believers about probably 20,000 was 28/30, 000 during 2018 to 2023!

Agreed that the roof should be open on sunny days. The flipside is I have watched games where it is raining and or blowing a gale outside, the roof is very welcome then.

Marvel's fine, once you're in your seat and watching the game I don't have many complaints. It's mostly just how souless the place feels. Just a big ugly pile of concrete on top of another big pile of concrete in the deadzone of the city. looks great on TV though.

We can lay a lot of blame at the coaches and players for how last year transpired, but the supporters can cop it for those two crowds.

17,000 to the Port game was an absolute embarrassment. You couldn't even excuse the supporters for the weather (per the GWS game) as the maximum temperate earlier that day was nearly 18 degrees.

It's no surprise that we only have one night game at the MCG in the first 15 rounds.

Okay, I'm trying to purchase tickets for the game, and my daughter s requested to be on the wing near the fence; but I'm seeing g very little seating options available - surely its not nearly sold out. Could someone please advise whats happening (yes I accept I'm a novice at this.

Bays on the wing are reserved for MCC, AFL or MFC members.

The General Admission bays currently available near the wing are M54 and M12 on the 50m arc.  They are in the Demon fan areas so you'll be among friends.   If you get tickets there you can cross to empty seats on the wing as I doubt all MFC members there will turn up.

You will have a better experience in M54 as its closer to the Dees supporting MCC whereas M12 is close to what will be empty AFL member areas.

Your kids might enjoy sitting with the Demon Army in M4, behind the goals.  If so @Ghostwriter can provide info on those tickets.  Also, sometimes M5 is quietly 'reserved' for MFC fans and can feel part of the DA and not risk being blinded/blocked by banners etc.   Again @Ghostwriter might be able to advise.

Hope you all have a great day!

ps had a laugh at the autocorrect in your first post of 'boy' to 'bot' for the 'bored youngster'!  AI seems to know everything!!

Thanks, sorting out final accommodation now.

If anyone could give an indication of when the captains run might start that would be very helpful. Our plan is to drive in from the Lakes Entrance that morning for it.

Also with the Grand Prix on at Albert Park for the game, has anyone any suggestions about parking. Is it likely to be taken up by F1 fans (walking across)?

The GP is more likely to affect traffic on the MI freeway than to MCG.

From Lakes Entrance, consider street parking in Richmond at the Yarra River end and catching a tram up Bridge Rd or Swan Street.  Vehicle traffic on those streets is slow.

image.thumb.png.78713847626e8f946447ffddd5bb535f.png

Not many side streets there will have restricted parking.  Trams run every 10 minutes or so.  Any tram on those streets will go to the G on the way to Flinders St Station.  But you'll need MYKI cards to travel on trams/trains (or the MYKI app).

The streets in the above map are 15-30 min walk to the G.

There are paid parking stations a short walk to the G but more expensive than MYKI travel.

Depending on where accommodation is you could catch a train (using MyKi),

Btw, the M1 freeway has tolls so if using it. will need day pass(es).

Happy to provide more info.
