  1. Some pretty good ones there. Here are my suggestions for possible nicknames for those players who don't seem to have them...yet? Andy Moniz-Wakefield - Monza, Mozza, Mozzy, Wakey, The Hyphen. Luke Kentfield - Kents, Kento, Kenta, The Pumpkin. Jed Adams - Addz, Addo, Gomez, Fester, Lurch (a few Addams Family references there).
  2. True, we can only speculate. I would hope that due to MFC President Brad Green's commitment to transparency that he would tell us if a formal complaint about the NGA system has been in motion. However, perhaps the MFC is waiting for a response from the AFL first. Anyway, I guess I am still angry that the Demons missed out on Mac Andrew a couple of years ago.
  3. I have never given a Demons player their own nickname before. We shall see if it catches on with his teammates I guess? I think "The Bison" suits Harvey Langford due to his strength and determination. He looks like the type of player who is ultra competitive and hates losing too. I am sure fans have suggested nicknames for Demons players before, but I do agree that it's usually teammates who choose them. I never had any choice in the nickname I was given when I played footy. 🤣 Obviously, commentators (such as Rex Hunt back in the 1990s and Brian Taylor in recent times) choose nicknames for players too, but whether or not they are taken up by teammates is another matter altogether. Nevertheless, I would be quite pleased if Brian Taylor or Bruce McAvaney started calling Harvey Langford "The Bison" but we shall have to wait for the AFL season to properly begin and Harvey also needs to earn his spot in the team.
  4. It's all about the fabric and the culture of Australian Rules Football. Gotta have your nicknames! 😁 Even better when there's a bit of a background story behind them.
  5. Excellent work by the Demons media department! ❤️💙 They are doing a fantastic job! 😎👍🏻 Even more amazing to hear that Jai Culley grew up being a Melbourne supporter and his whole family a Melbourne supporters too! It makes it even more special! I wish Jai Culley all the best and look forward to seeing him run out onto the MCG for the...MIGHTY DEMONS! 👹🔴🔵
  6. Totally agree with your comments. It is disgracefully unfair! 😡 I am still hoping that our President Brad Green can put aside a mere 10 minutes or so to write a formal letter of complaint to the AFL about this matter. We should be lobbying the AFL to change this grossly unfair set of rules that denies us access to Tairon Ah-Mu.
  7. Here's some highlights videos of Jai "Culls" Culley for those interested. My apologies if any of the highlights are repetitive. Fingers crossed that the Melbourne Demons media department do an interview with Jai Culley sometime soon. 🤞🏻
  8. @Ghostwriter mentioned that Jai Culley's nickname is Culls. Will be interesting if any new nicknames are discovered or created for Melbourne players throughout season 2025.
  9. Hope you and the rest of the Demon Army have a wonderful evening! ❤️💙
  10. Wonderful to hear that Fred Fanning has been given this prestigious honour!
  11. I am sure you can have at least a sneaky drink or two! A toast to the Bison! 😁 🍻 🍺

I saw this article on Zero Hangar about the SSP and why it shouldn't be extended. https://www.zerohanger.com/why-the-afl-shouldnt-be-extending-the-ssp-window-158873/ While I do have sympathy for the 2nd tier competitions, the only real way to deal with this issue is to increase AFL list sizes. Melbourne and Carlton would not have been in such dire need then. If each AFL team is given another 5 or 6 extra list spots to cushion the effects of any numerous injuries, then you don't have to worry about last minute recruiting as much. Furthermore, you can bring back reserves teams for the 2nd tier competitions as well. That way you don't have AFL clubs scrambling around trying to get last minute recruits from the VFL, SANFL, WAFL etc which then makes the clubs in those leagues suffer. As the old saying goes, you shouldn't be "robbing Peter to pay Paul". In the end, it is up to the AFL to show initiative and use it's huge profits to financially support the 2nd tier competitions and grassroots football. The more money that is invested in the lower levels of football the more that the AFL and AFL supporters will benefit in the long run. Stronger grassroots football and stronger 2nd tier competitions will in turn create a stronger AFL. Let's hope that the AFL focuses on rectifying this issue for the long term survival of Australian Rules Football.
  13. Hopefully Marty Hore's broken hand isn't longer than 6 weeks or so to recuperate from.
  14. Hoping both Jack Henderson and Jai Culley get a chance to play against Fremantle in this practice match.
  15. Anyone know what Jai Culley's nickname is? 🤔 Cuz? Cullsy? Cullo? Cuzza? Jesus? JC?
  16. With Jai Culley now joining the Melbourne Demons AFL side as an SSP it will be interesting if the Casey Demons VFL side decides to top-up with another former AFL player. Personally, I would like to give Charlie Clarke (who got delisted from the Bulldogs) another chance. But it depends if there are any available spots on the Casey Demons list and what their needs are I guess?
  17. A great video. I like the fact that Harvey "The Bison" Langford enjoys training and improving his skills with his mates. He speaks well too. I wish him all the best this year at the Demons and hope he earns a chance for a senior AFL debut when the coaches think he is ready. Exciting times for the Demons! 👹🔴🔵
  18. An excellent long kick for goal by Jai Culley. Hopefully he focuses on improving his pace. Here's your chance Jai! Good luck and all the best at the Melbourne Football Club! ❤️💙 Looking forward to the Demon's media department doing a brief 5 minute interview with Jai over the next day or so.

Will White a small forward gets his chance at the Blues while Jagga Smith is recovering from his ACL injury. https://www.afl.com.au/news/1271641/where-theres-a-will-carlton-blues-sign-small-forward-will-white
  20. Funnily enough today is Jai Culley's Birthday on the 24th of February. 🎂 That's a pretty amazing Birthday gift to be put onto an AFL list (albeit due to unfortunate circumstances). I wish Jai Culley all the best at the Demons! 👹🔴🔵
  21. Correct. Luker Kentfield is jumper number #44. Jai Culley will probably take number #46 or perhaps number #49 which he wore at the Eagles.

Some positive news if this is confirmed that the AFL has decided to extend the SSP period. It will be interesting for the following reasons. 1) What type of impact will Jai Culley have at the Demons? 2) Who will the Casey Demons take as a replacement now that Jai Culley will be on an AFL list? 3) Who will Carlton take as a replacement for Jagga Smith?

As the saying goes "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". If both Carlton and Melbourne complain about their circumstances regarding the SSP period then the AFL might be magnanimous and extend it for another week or two. I think it's fair to do this. While I understand it may stuff up teams in the second tier competitions (VFL, SANFL, WAFL etc) there are always young blokes out there who would love a chance to play footy at a higher level. Let's hope the AFL sees sense to make a change.

Agreed. Not sure on the exact amount. But at least 5 or 6 extra list spots for each AFL team should be enough to cover a dearth of players that succumb to injuries? Bring back each VFL side having a reserves side too. The AFL with it's enormous profits should be putting more money into the secondary competitions like the VFL as well as grassroots football regardless.
  25. An excellent article pumping of Jack Henderson. Love it! ❤️💙 Looking forward to seeing "Hendo" get a run against Fremantle this coming weekend.
